Proposal and thesis checklist by faculty

DIRECT ANSWER
A useful checklist verifies alignment among the problem, objectives, evidence, method, ethics, analysis, schedule and format. Then add faculty controls: clinical relevance and safety in Health; feasibility and indicators in Business; requirements and testing in Engineering; learning and context in Education; currency and source hierarchy in Law. The official program guide always prevails.
This list helps review a draft before sending it to an adviser. It is not an official rubric and does not replace your program's forms. Mark each item as verified, pending or not applicable and record the source supporting the decision.
Common checklist
- The institutional guide version and date are identified.
- The title defines the phenomenon, population or unit, context and period when relevant.
- The problem uses verifiable evidence, not only opinion.
- The question can be answered with available data and time.
- Every objective leads to an observable product or analysis.
- Definitions and prior studies come from retrievable sources.
- The design answers the question and acknowledges its limits.
- Population, sample or document selection is justified.
- Variables, categories or concepts have definitions and observation rules.
- The instrument aligns with objectives and considers piloting or review.
- Permission, consent, confidentiality and retention are planned.
- The analysis plan states what will be done for each objective.
- Schedule and resources are realistic.
- Citations, references, tables and appendices follow the required style.
- The student can explain each decision and retains authorship.
Health
Check clinical or operational outcome definitions, eligibility criteria, safety, event handling, bias, precision, ethics approval, consent and data protection. Distinguish statistical significance from clinical importance.
Business, management and economics
Define the decision unit, indicator, period and source. Review assumptions, scenarios, comparators, financial or operational feasibility and generalization limits. A proposal should connect findings to stakeholders and resources.
Engineering, architecture and technology
Connect the problem to functional and quality requirements. Document constraints, design, acceptance criteria, testing, security, accessibility, maintenance and reproducibility. For a prototype, define what it demonstrates and what it does not.
Education
Explain population, context, learning outcome, intervention or phenomenon, instruments and researcher role. Consider authorization, minors' participation, institutional dynamics and transfer conditions.
Law
Define the legal problem, jurisdiction and period. Identify hierarchy, effective date and version of authorities; separate scholarship, case law and your own proposal. Explain the interpretation method and strongest opposing argument.
Social sciences and humanities
Define theoretical position, units, corpus or participants, reflexivity, selection criteria, coding or interpretation process and sufficiency of evidence. State missing voices and representation limits.
Before submitting
Review your institution in the 22-IES hub, request the current faculty rubric and compare the draft with earlier feedback. Do not call something a university-wide requirement when your only evidence is an old example from another program.
